Visas Applying for a visa at the border can take several hours, so it is advisable to acquire one beforehand. Many travelers to Moçambique stop over in Nelspruit the night before crossing the border at Komatipoort in order maximise their daylight traveling time in Moçambique. There is a Consulate opposite ABSA Bank in Nelspruit which will issue visas at 3pm on the day of application if the application is received before 9am, phone +27-13-753-2089 for inquiries. Please note that 3pm is too late to leave Nelspruit if you want to avoid driving at night in Moçambique. The Bundu Lodge which is situated 11km North of Nelspruit on the R40 to White River is a convenient place to stop for the night. The phone number is +27-13-758-1221. E-mail: debundu@mweb.co.za, website: www.bunducountrylodge.co.za. The cost of a visa issued in South Africa is 85 Rand. We have had reports of Consulates in Europe charging up to 300 Euros for a 30 day tourist visa to Moçambique. Now that South African passport holders no longer require visas, the demand for visas issues will greatly decrease. This may mean the closure of the visa offices at the border and some Consulates in the future. To date there has been no official pronouncement on this question and they are expected to remain open for the present. There are visa agents in South Africa who will handle the entire visa process for a fee. One such agent is The Visa House located near Game in the Fourways Mall. Phone 27-11-467-4474 or 27-11-467-4479. As long as they receive the application before 8:30 on day 1, they undertake to have the visa issued by close of business on day 2. They charge R250 per visa as a fee and the visa costs R85. One passport size photo is required.
