The Blue Lagoon and Coconut Palms

When to come:

Many people are restricted to the December shut-down and for them the decision is made. Bookings for December are mostly concluded by the previous August and there are several people to fill every bed. If you are in this group book early and expect daytime temperatures of 320C and 290 at night.

The Philistines:

From the middle of December every year we are invaded by an avalanche of uncouth South African trash intent on using and abusing our hospitality. Loud, loutish, unshaven,  hang-gutted men;  pink-blistered, obese, sweating women; doughy, pap-filled, strident children; all bent on causing maximum disturbance whether by roaring quad, howling jet-ski, thumping boom-box or speeding bakkie.  We don't accommodate any from this group but they do infest the area and you may be offended by their presence, if so stay away between mid-December and mid-January.

If you are not restricted to December then:

January is beautiful, the crush is over and the weather just gets better and better, the days are long and languid, the nights are silky and warm. But many a credit card is maxed out and most lodges stand empty.

February is stiflingly hot and some people won't enjoy Moçambique during this month. Temperatures are in the 30's by day and high 20's by night and the humidity is shocking. Many lodges close during February and the locals take leave while in SA people give much-needed attention to domestic debt issues.

March, April and May are cooler and very pleasant with the days shortening towards June. This is for many the best time of year, the credit card has regained its former power and the grindstone has taken its toll. There's long weekends aplenty and some leave days, cunningly placed, can build a 10 day break.

June and July are quite cool. Day temperatures about 230C, nighttime temperatures drop as low as 150C but the days are short.  The sun sets shortly after 5, a good time for those that need plenty of sleep. Bring a light sweater for the evenings. We put 3 blankets on the bed.

August and September are windy but warmer and the days are lengthening. The mangos are on the trees and summer is very near.

October and November are great but can be very hot if the rains don't come. A good time for lots of cold beer on the beach.
